Building and civil engineering technicians support construction projects by preparing drawings, conducting surveys, performing calculations, inspecting sites and assisting engineers and architects with technical aspects of building and infrastructure work.
Key responsibilities
- Preparing technical drawings and specifications using CAD
- Conducting site surveys and setting out construction works
- Performing structural calculations and quantity estimates
- Inspecting construction work for quality and compliance
- Preparing reports and maintaining project documentation
Qualifications and entry routes
Typically requires an HNC/HND in construction, civil engineering or building studies. BTEC or apprenticeship routes are common. Professional registration through ICE (EngTech) or CIOB (TechCIOB) is valued.
