About this role
Dancers and choreographers perform and create dance works across ballet, contemporary, commercial, musical theatre and other dance forms. Choreographers devise movement sequences and direct dance performances for stage, screen and events.

Qualifications and entry routes
Most professional dancers train at vocational dance schools (e.g., Royal Ballet School, Rambert, London Contemporary). ISTD, RAD and Trinity qualifications are teaching standards. Degree programmes in dance are also available.

Short performing career span due to physical demands. Many transition to choreography, teaching or dance management. Freelance work is the norm.
